These supplications ask for knowledge, wisdom and guidance, and for the heart to stay firm after being guided. Each is shown within its complete verse, in Arabic with a published translation.
The Prophet was told to ask for more knowledge. (Taha 20:114)
فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ وَلَا تَعْجَلْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يُقْضَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَحْيُهُۥ ۖ وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًا ١١٤
Then exalted be Allah, the True King! And hasten not (O Muhammad) with the Qur'an ere its revelation hath been perfected unto thee, and say: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.
The supplication of Musa before speaking to Pharaoh, asking for confidence, ease and clear speech. (Taha 20:25–28)
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱشْرَحْ لِى صَدْرِى ٢٥
(Moses) said: My Lord! relieve my mind
وَيَسِّرْ لِىٓ أَمْرِى ٢٦
And ease my task for me;
وَٱحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِى ٢٧
And loose a knot from my tongue,
يَفْقَهُوا۟ قَوْلِى ٢٨
That they may understand my saying.
From Al-Fatihah, recited in every unit of prayer. (Al-Fatihah 1:6)
ٱهْدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ ٦
Show us the straight path,
The supplication of those firmly grounded in knowledge. (Ali Imran 3:8)
رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ ٨
Our Lord! Cause not our hearts to stray after Thou hast guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Thy Presence. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Bestower.
Part of the supplication of Ibrahim. (Ash-Shuara 26:83)
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ٨٣
My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous.
The words of the young people who took refuge in the cave. (Al-Kahf 18:10)
إِذْ أَوَى ٱلْفِتْيَةُ إِلَى ٱلْكَهْفِ فَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا ١٠
When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said: Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight.
