Sayyid al-Istighfar, the best dua for forgiveness

Said during the day and at night, with firm faith in its words.

O Allah, You are my Lord; there is none worthy of worship except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I keep to Your covenant and promise as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your blessings upon me and I admit my sins, so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.

The Prophet said that whoever says it with firm faith during the day and dies before evening, or at night and dies before morning, will be among the people of Paradise.

Sahih al-Bukhari 6306 · In Sahih al-Bukhari

Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilayh: seeking forgiveness through the day

Said many times each day; the Prophet said he did so more than seventy times a day.

Astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayh.

I ask Allah for forgiveness and I turn to Him in repentance.

Abu Hurairah heard the Prophet swear by Allah that he asked forgiveness and turned to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day.

Sahih al-Bukhari 6307 · In Sahih al-Bukhari

My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance

Repeated in a gathering; Ibn Umar counted the Prophet saying it a hundred times in a single sitting.

Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya, innaka antat-Tawwabur-Rahim.

My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful.

Jami at-Tirmidhi 3434, graded Sahih (Darussalam), records it said a hundred times before rising from a sitting, ending antat-Tawwabul-Ghafur, 'You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Forgiving'.

O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me. You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.

Al-Bukhari placed it under the chapter on supplication before the closing salam of the prayer.
